Granaries are structures used to store maize (corn). They vary in size and materials used in construction. Granaries were commonly round and raised off the ground.

A granary is a circular basket which rests on a base and often has a thatched roof.

A thatch roof on a wood frame is quite common. There were many granaries that did not have a roof since thatch is difficult to obtain.
