Mud on frame

Mud applied to a formwork is a common construction technique. Mud is a material that is available in most areas. Diffrences occur with the consitency of the mud and what the mud is adhered to. In Malawi frames were made of wood poles, reeds and bamboo.

Wood branches of all sizes are constructed with vertical and horizontal memebers.

Whole stalks of bamboo are placed into the ground for vertical supports. Horizontal members are cut in half.

Reeds are used for both horizonal and vertical supports. Wood poles are used as additional supports, especially on the corners.
